9 False Eyelash Myths Debunked
Share
At Posh Lash Pro (PLP), we are lash experts and cosmetic enthusiasts that come across the strangest and funniest myths about false eyelashes. We want to debunk them for you.
If you’re new to false eyelashes and want to learn more about how you can incorporate them into your beauty routine, but were somehow discouraged by something you heard or read online, then this post is for you.
We’ve all heard of old wives’ tales and myths; our favourite is the one about pulling white hairs from your head. The cosmetic and lash industry is no exception to this rule. We want to make sure that you feel confident when incorporating false eyelashes into your beauty routine. Here are nine false eyelash myths debunked for you to feel confident about your lash beauty.
1. False eyelashes always look fake
At Posh Lash Pro, we specialize in false strip eyelashes, and we’re aware of the idea that false eyelashes may look fake simply because, well, they are fake eyelashes.
Shop our natural lash collection and take a look at our post on the different lash materials to help you avoid the ‘fake’ false eyelashes situation.
Suppose you want a natural no-makeup look; having the correct application technique combined with a knowledge of lash materials, thickness and length is crucial to avoid your false eyelashes looking too dramatic or, in this case, fake. It’s also essential to be aware of the shape of your eyes and your natural lashes to pick the right set of false eyelashes to achieve the no-makeup look.
To debunk this lash myth, false eyelash technology has made it possible to mimic real and natural hair, whether they’re clusters, strips, or individual lashes. Natural false eyelashes have become versatile and accommodating to individual needs and styles. With the right set of false eyelashes, lash application and tools, your false eyelashes will look seamless against your eyes and enhance your makeup look.

2. False eyelashes will make my eyes look small
This is a common misconception in the lash industry, especially among the Asian demographic, where it is common for individuals of Asian ethnicities to have the illusion of’ smaller’ eyes. No matter the size of your eyes, they are all beautiful. With the right pair of lashes, every pair of eyes can have an impact.
The ‘small’ eyes myth is dated and needs to be retired. To properly define what is considered ‘small’ is based on how much Sclera (the white space of your eye) is visible around your iris and eyelids. The more visible an individual’s Sclera is, the stronger the illusion of a bigger eye; round eyes give the illusion of bigger eyes, while almond-shaped eyes give the illusion of smaller eyes. This means that each eye shape will benefit from a different makeup look, and there is no one size fits all cosmetic solution for everyone.
Take a look at our lash guide for picking the right pair of lashes for your eye shape.
When it comes to false eyelashes, bigger eyes are not the only way to have an impactful eye makeup look. If you have what you consider ‘small’ eyes, then opting for a pair of natural lashes will be the best option to maximize the look of your eyes.

3. I have uneven eyes; false eyelashes will make my eyes look uneven
Asymmetry is beauty. Like one of the industry’s most well-known cosmetic makeup gurus says about eyebrows, ‘they’re sisters, not twins’ is also true for your eyes and eyelashes. Uneven eyes are more common than you think. Everything from different-sized eyes to a monolid matched with a double lid is incredibly typical. It’s more uncommon to have two identical eyes.
If camouflaging the difference in your eyes is important to you, using cosmetics is the easiest way to achieve the best results. False eyelashes paired with a steady hand and eyeliner can balance out or camouflage uneven eyelids. Depending on your eyes, sometimes thickening the liner on one eye will even out the other, and trimming the lash band of each strip lash to fit each eye shape will help to balance and camouflage uneven eyes.

4. Thin or invisible strip lash bands are more comfortable
Invisible lash bands have become popular because their nearly invisible band is marketed as more comfortable to wear and offers a natural makeup look because the lashes sit seamlessly on your eyelids without the visibility of a band.
Shop our Posh Lash Pro Boutique Lash Collection.
We’ve tested this latest trend, and we can say that the lack of a lash band doesn’t offer a better or more comfortable fit. The purpose of the lash band is to provide support for the lash hairs to sit. Otherwise, the weight of the lashes will sit directly on your eyelids, adding extra weight and making your eyes feel very heavy, and blinking will feel like a weight lift session at the gym.
Shop our collection of strip lashes with a flexible synthetic band that fits on your eyelids comfortably and maintains its shape for up to 20 times.
5. Putting on false eyelashes is very hard
Lashes can be tricky initially, but it’s a matter of practice once you have picked the perfect pair of lashes and trimmed them to fit your eyelids. It’s a matter of using the right tools and techniques to perfect the lash application.
Our tip is to use the proper tools, we suggest using lash tweezers. Try to avoid using tweezers for your eyebrows, as the sharp edges of the tweezers can damage the lash fibres.
Once you’ve applied your lash adhesive, lift your chin up towards a mirror so you can see your lash line clearer. Place the strip lash, clusters, or individual lashes as close as you can to your lash line and be sure to match the lash corners to the corners of your eyes. This may take a few tries, but you’ll be surprised at how easy it is with a bit of practice and we can assure you that it’s totally worth it.

6. Eyelash extensions are more comfortable than strip lashes
The ultimate debate, and we want to set the record straight. Lash extensions are not more comfortable; they are more convenient. We love lash extensions, and they have come a long way and have improved immensely to be more comfortable, long-lasting, and durable.
Shop our Glamour lashes to achieve a Lash Extension effect without the long-term commitment.
However, lash extensions are semi-permanent solutions for anyone looking for a convenient way to skip their mascara and eyelash curler in their makeup routine. Since lash extensions are not removable unless done by a professional, the wearer cannot comfortably rub their eyes, so you’ll need to work your skincare routine around it. And if you’re someone that likes to sleep on your belly, eyelash extensions are not comfortable up against your skin if your face is on a pillow.
Eyelash extensions also don’t provide options for the wearer. If someone chooses volume glam lashes, that person will have volume glam lashes for every occasion, day and night. On the other hand, strip lashes are versatile, and there isn’t a commitment to stick with one set of lash styles. Depending on your lifestyle, strip lashes or lash extensions are great options but don’t be fooled by lash extensions being more comfortable.

7. Vaseline helps my natural lashes grow
Vaseline is not the same as lash serums. We don’t mean to burst your bubble here, but Vaseline doesn’t have ingredients that help your lashes or any hair on your body to grow.
Shop our Glamour lashes to add a bit of glam to your natural lashes.
Vaseline is great for locking in moisture and hydration, but it doesn’t provide hydration or contain moisturizing effects. And although we love Vaseline for our dry lips in the wintertime, we do not recommend applying Vaseline on your lashes or eyelids unless you’re using it to lock in moisture around your eyes, meaning it’s the last step in your skincare routine.
8. Cleaning my strip lashes will damage them
No, not if you’re doing it correctly. Our lash guide on how to clean strip lashes will give you all the steps you need to clean your lashes safely and gently so you won’t damage your strip lashes.
Shop our lash care kit to use the best products to clean your false eyelashes confidently.
At PLP, we highly recommend and encourage our customers to clean their false eyelashes after every wear. Build-up around the eyes is common, and with strip lashes and lash adhesives, your eyes may be more susceptible to bacterial infections. Avoid harm to your eyes with proper care and clean your false eyelashes so you can extend the shelf life of your lashes.

9. Lash glue won’t hold on oily skin
Oily skin makes cosmetic, and makeup applications and solutions more challenging since it may feel like any makeup just slides off your face. However, this doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy the luxury of false eyelashes.
Shop our 2 in 1 Lash Adhesives so you can have up to 24 hours of strip lash hold
One trick is to apply your choice of setting powder directly on your eyelid to absorb any extra moisture from your skin’s natural oils to prevent makeup or, in this case, lashes and lash adhesives from sliding off your skin.
